Professor Dave Petley

Vice-President for Innovation at the University of Sheffield

Dave Petley took up the role of Vice-President for Innovation in January 2020 having previously been Vice-President for Research and Innovation. Before coming to Sheffield, he was Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise at the University of East Anglia. Dave is a geographer and earth scientist with a strong interest in the development and support of research and innovation at national, regional and institutional levels. Dave provides strategic leadership to the University’s innovation, knowledge exchange, Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) and regional engagement agendas.

Dr Lisa Mooney

Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Sheffield Hallam University

Dr Mooney has an academic background in the arts and social sciences, and extensive research and consultancy expertise in the fields of knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration and research impact.

Dr Mooney leads the development of the University’s research institutes and facilitates growth in research and innovation capacity and impact.

Yasmin Knight

Head of Regional Engagement at the University of Sheffield

Yasmin joined the University of Sheffield in 2014 and as Head of Regional Engagement is responsible for the University’s regional impact. Yasmin brings partners together to enable collaboration, prosperity and growth which are key parts of the University’s duty as a civic and anchor institution.  

A graduate member of the Institute of Export, Yasmin had previously gained over 10 years’ experience in international trade in manufacturing industries. She used this experience prior to joining the University to lead a number of regional enterprise support programmes assisting both business start-ups and existing businesses to grow and innovate over a period of ten years.

Alex Prince

Head of Knowledge Exchange at Sheffield Hallam University

Alex leads the Knowledge Exchange Team in the Research and Innovation Office. Alex is accountable for a wide range of services, including economic development, commercialisation and IP, Innovate UK applications and ERDF projects.

Peter Hough

Project Support Officer at the University of Sheffield

Peter joined the University of Sheffield in 2013 and is part of the Partnerships and Regional Engagement department. Peter supports the University’s regional engagement activities including the MD Club. He is also responsible for the operational management of the University’s Kroto Innovation Centre. Prior to joining the University of Sheffield, Peter worked as a marketing copywriter for a Sheffield based SEO company.

Sally Nicholls

Business Development Administrator at Sheffield Hallam University

Sally joined Sheffield Hallam in 2019 and provides professional services support to the Research and Innovation Service. Her work involves enabling effective business engagement with the university, fostering relationships between business and academia and enabling quality opportunities for engagement.

Laura Talbot

Regional Partnerships Development Officer at the University of Sheffield

Laura has worked at the University of Sheffield for five years. Her previous work has involved supporting businesses across the Sheffield City Region to access talent, through the recruitment of students and graduates. She joined the team in summer 2021, working with local businesses to explore the range of ways they can link with the University to form mutually beneficial partnerships.

Josie Brewer

Communications Officer at the University of Sheffield

Josie joined the University of Sheffield in June 2021 as a Communications Officer within the Partnerships and Regional Engagement team. Josie provides communications support to the MD Club’s events, social and website.

James Cokeham

Regional Economic Development Manager at the University of Sheffield

James is the University of Sheffield’s Regional Economic Development Manager and leads on maximising the University’s socio-economic impact in South Yorkshire. Before joining the team, James spent 12 years in the public and private sectors. This included working as a Principal Consultant with Steer Economic Development, leading Selby District Council’s economic development and regeneration services and coordinating economic strategy and performance at East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
