Kevin has been involved with the MD Club since the beginning and is now chair of the steering group and delighted to see that the MD’s Club is again the “Must Join” local networking event.

Kevin’s background is in Engineering, Finance and Marketing. Kevin is keen to share his understanding of the importance locally of both academic and commercial activities. It is his wish that these two areas work much more seamlessly by developing innovative World class applications.

Antony Davies

Client Relationship Manager, Sheffield Innovation Programme

Antony recently took up his role at Sheffield Hallam University after a 30 year career in business consulting. Much of that time was spent developing collaborative projects across Europe between companies, universities and other research providers to develop and commercialise new technologies. Latterly, Antony has become more involved with economic development at a regional level, working with the Sheffield City Region LEP, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and the South Yorkshire branch of the Institute of Directors. Antony sees connectivity and collaboration as being key factors of business success, and much of his time is spent facilitating that to happen for our regional companies.

Dr Ceri Batchelder

Entrepreneur in Residence, University of Sheffield

Ceri is Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Sheffield, supporting staff and students in enterprise and business engagement, with a particular focus on digital technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT). Ceri’s consultancy business Connect&Create delivers innovation and ecosystem projects between the digital community and other sectors, working with tech startups, SME businesses, local authorities and universities. She is a huge advocate of the MD Club’s activities in bringing together academia and business across the Sheffield City Region – connections that lead to collaboration, innovation and ultimately economic growth. 

Vickie Brown

Finance Director, Distinction Group Limited

Victoria is a qualified Accountant and Chartered Director with 20+ years experience in various global manufacturing organisations. She is currently Finance Director of Distinction Group Limited, a Barnsley based home improvements group with 155 employees and a turnover of circa £40M.

Victoria is also a Member of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire, Vice Chair of the Institute of Directors South Yorkshire Committee, Non-Exec Director of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and sits on the Risk and Audit Committee of Sheffield Hallam University.

Alan Lyons

SME Business Network Manage, Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing

Alan has over thirty years’ experience assisting businesses growth and expansion in the Sheffield City Region, including national and international companies, but concentrating on small and medium businesses.

Working at the AMRC places him ideally to introduce manufacturing businesses to the art of possible, coupled with being part of the MD Club team – an excellent conduit to business and academy.

Philippa Hedley-Takhar

Business Development Manager – NIHR Devices for Dignity Medtech Co-operative (MIC)

Philippa leads on industry engagement and building strategic relationships to catalyse technology innovation for long-term health conditions for the NIHR Devices for Dignity Medtech Co-operative (MIC) hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

With an MSc Urban Regeneration, Philippa has nearly 20 years’ experience working in economic development and inward investment, including roles at Yorkshire & Humber AHSN, Creative Sheffield and at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP), and is passionate about building knowledge exchange networks and meaningful collaborations in the Sheffield City Region to support inclusive economic growth.

Yasmin Knight

Head of Regional Engagement at the University of Sheffield

Yasmin joined the University of Sheffield in 2014 and as Head of Regional Engagement is responsible for the University’s regional impact. Yasmin brings partners together to enable collaboration, prosperity and growth which are key parts of the University’s duty as a civic and anchor institution.  

A graduate member of the Institute of Export, Yasmin had previously gained over 10 years’ experience in international trade in manufacturing industries. She used this experience prior to joining the University to lead a number of regional enterprise support programmes assisting both business start-ups and existing businesses to grow and innovate over a period of ten years.

Alex Prince

Head of Knowledge Exchange at Sheffield Hallam University

Alex leads the Knowledge Exchange Team in the Research and Innovation Office. Alex is accountable for a wide range of services, including economic development, commercialisation and IP, Innovate UK applications and ERDF projects.
